Review ELECTRO VOICE Quadraphonic Universal Decoder Mint Box

The EVX-44 Electro-Voice Quadraphonic Decoder Box is a remarkable audio device designed to bring a truly immersive sound experience to your home or professional setup. This decoder box is a key component in a quadraphonic sound system, which is an advanced audio format that provides 360-degree surround sound.

The EVX-44 is a sturdy, compact unit with a sleek, modern design that will blend seamlessly into any decor. It features four high-quality, low-noise, balanced XLR outputs, each dedicated to driving a separate speaker, ensuring that every sound is accurately positioned in the soundstage. The unit also offers an unbalanced RCA input for connecting to a variety of audio sources, such as record players, CD players, or even modern streaming devices.

One of the standout features of the EVX-44 is its advanced decoding circuitry. It supports both the quadraphonic formats of the 1970s, such as Quad and Stereo with Quad Matrices, as well as modern formats like Ambisonics. This versatility means that you can enjoy a wide range of quadraphonic recordings, both old and new.

The EVX-44 is built to last, with a rugged metal enclosure and high-quality components. It's also easy to use, with simple controls for setting the decoder mode and output levels. Whether you're a music enthusiast looking to upgrade your home audio system or a professional sound technician seeking a reliable quadraphonic decoder, the EVX-44 Electro-Voice Quadraphonic Decoder Box is an excellent choice.

Pros of buying EVX-44 Electro-Voice Quadraphonic Decoder Box:

1. Authentic Sound Experience: The EVX-44 decoder box allows you to experience quadraphonic sound, which was popular in the 1970s. This technology provides a more immersive and realistic sound by separating sound sources into four distinct channels.

2. Restore Old Quadraphonic Records: If you have a collection of old quadraphonic vinyl records, this decoder box can help you rediscover the sound that was lost when surround sound became more popular.

3. Compatibility: The EVX-44 decoder box is compatible with a variety of quadraphonic audio systems, including those made by Electro-Voice, Stereo Electric Corporation, and Quadraphonic Sound Corporation.

4. Easy to Use: The EVX-44 decoder box is easy to set up and use, with clear instructions and simple controls.

Cons of buying EVX-44 Electro-Voice Quadraphonic Decoder Box:

1. Limited Availability: Quadraphonic vinyl records and players are not as common as they once were, so finding compatible audio sources may be challenging.

2. High Price: Compared to modern surround sound systems, the EVX-44 decoder box can be quite expensive.

3. Limited Compatibility with Modern Equipment: The EVX-44 decoder box may not be compatible with modern audio systems, and you may need to invest in additional equipment to connect it to your speakers or amplifier.

Conclusion:

If you have a collection of old quadraphonic vinyl records and are looking to rediscover the immersive sound experience that they provided, the EVX-44 Electro-Voice Quadraphonic Decoder Box is a great option. However, be aware of the limited availability of quadraphonic audio sources and the high price of the decoder box. If you are not a collector of old vinyl records, you may want to consider investing in a modern surround sound system instead.

Recommendation:

If you are interested in buying the EVX-44 Electro-Voice Quadraphonic Decoder Box, I would recommend doing your research first to ensure that you have compatible audio sources and that you are willing to invest the necessary time and money to set it up and use it. If you are not sure, you may want to consider renting or borrowing the decoder box first to try it out before making a purchase.

Details:

They concluded that with sq-encoded records the EVX-44 produced a correctly oriented sound pattern strong left-to-right separation in front and somewhat less across two rear channels moderate amount of front-to-rear along sides. The function selector has 4 positions: discrete channel pass through, decode of 2 source, separation enhancement in auto position which it senses presence a front soloist and increases front-back to isolate speakers without reducing level back instruments, full 'on' circuitry is activated at all times. It is in mint condition and includes the original box.

E-v took a unique approach - single matrix system that would be effective with at least two types of encoded material no switching its playback parameters it decodes both sq and encoding 1-volt output. Comparable to other partial logic sq decoders. It was not as effective in decoding the sans Sq matrix. The recording of epic eq album, chase, opens with trumpets sounding sequentially in each corner, followed by a rapid skipping trumpet notes from corner.

This was the first commercial matrix system on market and in America it quadraphonic Thad tested at. It is not hard to recognize superior 'discreteness' when listening this record. The original ev system was compatible with Sq. Stereo-4 decoders were sometimes used to produce pseudo 4-channel effects from 2-channel stereo recordings.

Most other systems have decode coefficients that mirror the encode. This unit will decode the sq, Sq and rm formats. You are buying on a vintage Electro Voice model EVX-44 universal quadraphonic decoder. But the system more or less disappeared when sq was introduced by Columbia CBS records in America.

Some records were made in ev system the beginning of 1970s. Kirsch-hoick labs stated that hum and noise at maximum volume was un-measurable - better than 80 db below a 1-volt output. As a rear channel synthesizer with stereo material the EVX-44 did fine job 'separation enhancement' working very well even when decoder was used.

It works properly on all functions and controls switches were cleaned sprayed for scratch free operation. Ev was the first system to use different sets of coefficients for encoding and decoding. Therefore the ev stereo-4 was something in between a simulated system and matrix.
