The tape also appears to be twice as wide included i've used in past and it is yellow rather than beige color. The original box is fairly flimsy after all these years and I touched it up with tape. This is the gibson girl deluxe model. I used a Robins gibson girl splicer in the early 60s when had pen tron reel.
The splicer is inches by about there a thin cardboard insert that fits into with instructions on how to use. I also re-attached the top to back with tape. I'm guessing this makes it easier to view the splice when recorder is in fast forward or rewind. I included photos and the main repair was to front top corner.
A nice piece of audio history. Why is it deluxe. The black base bigger because splicer now has its own tape holder. The splicer also has a molder plastic cover and to top it off base with green felt attached.
