The back diameter is 3 1/4 inches thick, 1/8 below Th empanel, not counting the terminals. It should be great for your audio project. The meter movement is good, but the dial glass was cracked, so I removed it. You are buying on a Western Electric type KS-166759 L1 DB meter that was removed from piece of equipment.

So, there is no dial glass. Above the panel it is 3/4 niche thick. It is a panel mount meter that measures 4 1/4 by inches at the front.
